What is sinuplasty?

Sinuplasty is a safe and minimally invasive way to treat issues related to chronic sinusitis. This is a great option for someone looking for relief from these issues but without the need for surgery. This procedure does not require any incisions or cutting of tissue or bone, and can be performed by our ENT doctor right here in Olympia Fields, Munster and Merrillville.

What does this procedure entail?

Once local anesthesia has been administered there are several simple steps that are involved in a balloon sinuplasty:

Step 1: We will place the small balloon catheter into the blocked passages of the sinuses.

Step 2: We will inflate the balloon to widen the walls of the sinuses.

Step 3: A saline solution will be sprayed into the sinuses to remove any bacteria or mucus.

Step 4: Once the passages have been expanded and the sinuses have been flushed out we will remove the catheter.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of the procedure will vary, so it’s always a good idea to ask us prior to your sinuplasty. This is an outpatient procedure, so anyone undergoing this procedure will return home the same day.

What is the recovery time?

Since there is not cutting involved recovery time for this procedure is very fast. The majority of patients usually return to their normal activities after a couple of days.

Who could benefit from sinuplasty?

If you have been dealing with chronic sinusitis and medication or other treatment options aren’t giving you the relief you need then you could be an ideal candidate for balloon sinuplasty. It’s important that you talk to our doctor first to determine what treatment is best for you.
